Greg Sharpe brings to Scriptura something rare: deep academic training in biblical Hebrew combined with more than a decade of frontline experience in one of the world’s most challenging mission contexts. His work at Scriptura focuses on the careful, close engagement with the Hebrew text that translation teams around the world depend on to do their work well.

As a researcher, Greg conducts in-depth research on Hebrew poetry — examining word choice, structure, imagery, and meaning at the level of the original language. He develops resources that help translators understand not just what the Psalms say, but what they do — how they work as poems, and what would be lost in translation without that understanding. He brings to this work years of experience in West Africa, where he served among a large Muslim people group in eastern Niger, trained local pastors in gospel communication, and led a fifteen-year effort to develop a version of Scripture in the local language written in the Arabic script that children there could already read.
