He Read the Document and Began

At the end of April, Bio Athanase conducted a Psalms Refresher Workshop with a few translators who had previously attended one of Scriptura’s workshops. Before the Refresher Workshop started, Bio had designed training guides for Psalms 23 and 121 — documents combining Scriptura’s ten-step performance framework with exegetical notes specific to each psalm. He handed them to Hyppolite Chacassou, an exegete from the Incà Bible translation team, without any specific instructions. He wanted to see what would happen.

Hyppolite read the document. Then he began. He led the entire exegesis and internalization process — in the Incà language, with the full group — working through each step in sequence, without asking for guidance.

“I was surprised to see that the document could be used without anyone’s help.”

By the end of the workshop, the community had two recorded songs. But what may matter more in the long run is what they represent: a community equipped to keep creating, with or without Scriptura in the room.
