In a Few Days, What Normally Takes Months

Yaoundé, Cameroon · September 15–26, 2025
Psalms Workshop

One of the musicians at the Yaoundé workshop came away with something he hadn’t anticipated: a finished song.

Not a draft. Not an idea. A song — composed during the workshop, grounded in the text of a psalm, faithful to its meaning and emotionally resonant with its shape. Under normal circumstances, he said, a piece like that would take him months.

What made the difference was the process. Working through Scriptura’s materials — understanding the psalm’s structure, its emotional arc, what each section was doing — gave him something to compose from rather than toward. He wasn’t trying to capture a vague sense of a psalm’s spirit. He knew what the psalm was saying, how it moved, where its weight fell. The music could follow from that.

The tools don’t replace the artistry. They give it a foundation.
